Kade was self-referred to The Movement Centre for an assessment to see if he would benefit from a 12-month course of Targeted Training therapy. He was found to have difficulties with his pelvic control which was affecting his ability to maintain a hands-free high kneeling position and transfers on to a bench.
Kade was set up in a standing frame with support at his pelvis, with the addition of a rocking base to challenge his reactive control. Kade was encouraged to do 30 mins daily of hands-free reaching activities at home.
A couple of months’ later, at his first review, Kade was now able to stand up from the floor without hand support and keep the position for a few seconds and then step with one hand held. He was now able to transfer onto a therapy bench independently and climb up and down steps using alternating feet. The rocking base was removed and Kade was now being supported at the knees with a pad behind.
At his next review, 4 months after he started his course of Targeted Training therapy, Kade was now standing for a few seconds and walking independently in shoes and barefoot over different surfaces. He was now able to achieve a low squat and return to standing again without hand support, transfer on and off low-level furniture and climb up and down steps holding a rail on each side.
Due to Kade’s fantastic progress that he had made, he finished his Targeted Training course earlier than expected. The skills and goals that Kade had achieved has made him far more independent!
Absolutely amazing achievements Kade!
