Darcy was 3 and half years old when he attended The Movement Centre for a course of Targeted Training therapy. Darcy was able to sit and crawl but was unstable in standing unless he was being supported.
Darcy was assessed and was found to have movement control problems at pelvic level. Darcy was initially supplied with a standing frame at pelvic level to consolidate his trunk control before progressing lower.
When Darcy came back for his first review mum reported that he was high kneeling more for a few seconds without hand support, standing stronger with less support and was cruising. At his second review he was high kneeling more often and for slightly longer periods. He was also able to use quad sticks and his Grillo walker and as well as getting more confident at cruising.
Over the next few reviews Darcy’s functional abilities improved, he was now able to do the following sit with increased stability on a therapy bench and rotate his trunk without losing balance and pull himself up from the floor to standing at the parallel bars. He was now able to use his wheelchair to get around more easily.
Over the course of 12 months, Darcy has become more confident in cruising, walking along the parallel bars, pulling to stand, hands free high kneeling, and hands-free bench sitting.
Incredible work Darcy, well done!
