I'm a Clinician

At The Movement Centre, we are a registered UK charity (No. 1075549) providing specialist physiotherapy for children with movement difficulties. We work in partnership with clinicians and families to support children’s functional development, independence, and quality of life through evidence-based intervention.
What We Do

Specialist, Evidence-Based Therapy

At The Movement Centre, we specialise in Targeted Training Therapy – a structured, evidence-based paediatric physiotherapy intervention designed to improve postural control and movement function. Our experienced clinical team works closely with families and referring professionals to ensure every programme is tailored to each child’s individual development, goals, and potential. Therapy is carefully prescribed, goal-led, and never one-size-fits-all, recognising that meaningful outcomes can have a significant and lasting impact on a child’s functional abilities, participation, and overall development.

Through personalised programmes, therapy may support children to:

Head and Postural Control
Develop improved head and postural control
Independence and Stability
Achieve independent sitting and improved trunk stability
Movement Progression
Progress towards standing and stepping, and in some cases walking
Strength and Confidence
Increase strength, movement efficiency, and functional confidence

Who We Help

Clinical referrals

Targeted Training may be appropriate for children with movement difficulties associated with:

Cerebral Palsy
We support children with Cerebral Palsy to improve head, trunk and postural control, helping build the foundations for functional movement and greater independence.
Global Developmental Delay (GDD)
For children with GDD, our programmes focus on developing core strength and stability to support motor milestones and encourage active participation in everyday activities.
Down Syndrome
We help children with Down Syndrome strengthen their postural control and movement patterns, supporting improved balance, coordination and physical confidence.
Acquired Brain Injury
Following brain injury, our therapy aims to rebuild lost movement skills by strengthening core stability and retraining functional motor control in a structured, supportive environment.
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)
For children with SMA, we provide targeted support to help maintain and develop postural strength, promoting active movement where possible and supporting long-term physical wellbeing.
Other non-degenerative movement control challenges
We also work with children who have a wide range of movement control difficulties, offering personalised programmes designed to improve stability, strength and functional ability.

Fundraising

Accessible Therapy Provision

Thanks to generous support from individuals, trusts, and community fundraising, we are able to offer up to 12 months of fully funded Targeted Training Therapy, ensuring financial barriers do not prevent access to specialist care. Families are encouraged to engage in fundraising to support future children accessing the service.

After a referral

What To Expect

Following referral, children undergo an initial assessment with our specialist team to determine suitability and establish functional goals. A personalised therapy programme is then developed in collaboration with families, with ongoing review and progress monitoring. We maintain clear communication with families and, where appropriate, referring professionals throughout the therapy journey.
