Find the right physiotherapist for your child …

Many children need support from a physiotherapist at some time during their very early years to adolescence.  This support may be sought for immediate advice and treatment relating to concerns of posture and movement to acute injuries.  However, children with long term conditions or disabilities, may require therapy throughout their childhood and into adulthood.

This is why The Movement Centre have now joined the ‘Find A Physiotherapist’ directory. We support children who have long term conditions that affect their movement control. We focus on giving the child the best chance of reaching their full potential, working on increased strength and control of their movement.

The Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists (APCP) has launched an online directory for parents seeking to Find a Children’s Physiotherapist, who can provide the specialist skills to work with their child.

All qualified physiotherapists, including those at The Movement Centre are regulated by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and children’s physiotherapists, have additional expertise in child development and childhood conditions.  They are specialist practitioners, with the right skill base and knowledge to deliver the best care for babies, children and young adults.

Some parents choose to seek advice and treatment from an independent or private physiotherapist to supplement their NHS care. Users can search by postcode or the physiotherapist’s name and can filter results by conditions treated, interventions and treatments offered, and /or treatment locations.

International visitor to The Movement Centre

Last week we welcomed Ming-Rong, a physiotherapist from Taiwan, to The Movement Centre.

Ming-Rong visited to find out more about our children’s physiotherapy, Targeted Training and the life-changing effect it can have for the children we work with.

It was a true pleasure meeting her and we are pleased to have been able to demonstrate how we help the children who come to see us improve their movement.

20 years of lovely Lynne!

Our amazing Lynne started working at The Movement Centre 20 years ago today; that’s 20 years of improving children’s lives through their mobility!

We’re so lucky to have her. If you want to know anything about The Movement Centre, Lynne will know.

She has supported 100’s of children over her time here, and seen many changes, new staff, new trustees and various changes, but she has remained here all those years.

Gary cycling challenge local children’s charity

Branch Manager of Huws Gray Plumbing & Heating supplies in Shrewsbury, Gary Clarke, is back for revenge after his Lands’ End to John O’Groats ride was cut short due to COVID last time out. Gary made it all the way to Scotland, and was forced to stop because of the varying restrictions over the borders.

Gary is taking on the challenge to help raise monies to support The Movement Centre, a local charity supporting children with additional needs that find it difficult to control their movement. He will be taking on the challenge with two friends who will also cycle for children’s charities, Bryn Monks for Hope House and Lee Richards for Children with Cancer UK.

They will attempt to complete the 1402km route in a maximum time of just 116-hours and 40-minutes! The challenge will see them all cycle from Cornwall through the Cotswolds, the Midlands, the North before finishing off in the Scottish Highlands.

Gary along with the other two cyclists will be expected to maintain a minimum cycling average speed of 12kph including any time spent off their bikes. They will set off at 9am on Sunday 3rd July and attempt to reach John O’Groats by 8th July.

“Along with my wife Kelly we enjoy the outdoors walking, running and cycling. Kelly is a fundraiser and volunteer for The Movement Centre and we have our own fundraising page on Facebook. We are inspired by the wonderful work they do at The Movement Centre and the benefits it has on the children. I love that I am able to have a part in helping more children gain control of their movements, something we all take for granted”.

Fundraising Officer for The Movement Centre said “We are delighted to have the support from Gary once again and we are really proud of him for undertaking this challenge. His supports so much to us and the families who access our services, and we can’t wait to see how he gets on. We want to send our best wishes to Gary and team of cyclists, and thank him for the support”.

Great success for Open Day

Last week, The Movement Centre hosted its first open day for individuals, businesses and community groups to visit and find out more about the work it delivers.

Lanyon Bowdler sponsored the open day, and the charity was delighted to have the legal firm’s support. People attending had the opportunity to hear from one of The Movement Centre’s physiotherapists, its CEO, and from a family who had been through the Targeted Training process.

The team was delighted to have Leo and his family attend, as it was vital for people attending to hear, first-hand, how The Movement Centre supports children and their families.

Could you Move More in May to help raise funds for charity?

The Movement Centre is launching a new campaign this May to encourage more exercise, and to raise vital funds for its work at the centre based near Oswestry.

There’s no need to be an athlete, simply set your own targets. You could walk around your garden, attend a Zumba class, cycle to work or run 10km? It’s your choice…

So far, Oswestry Leisure Centre and Aico have blown it out the water when it comes to crazy ideas.

Staff and customers at Oswestry Leisure Centre can take part in a bounce-athon on its bouncy castle. Participants will be asked to make a small contribution towards the charity’s work.

What could be more fun than being on a bouncy castle? A good, old-fashioned sports day!

Aico is asking its staff to participate in a traditional, school-style sports day to encourage teams to Move More in May – while still having plenty of fun!

Rebecca Cumblidge, Finance Clerk at Aico said: “Aico colleagues are excited to be supporting The Movement Centre with its Move More in May campaign, we can all take our ability to move with ease for granted from time to time and this is a challenge to make us think.

“Head office colleagues will be competing in Aico Sports Day which will include classic events like three-legged race and egg and spoon race. This will be a companywide campaign with some fun and interesting ways to move more along with an opportunity to raise funds for a charity close to Aico’s heart.”

The Movement Centre is looking forward to launching this new campaign for 2022 and invites individuals, businesses, schools and community groups to get in touch to find out more.

The Movement Centre are one of the first Charities to sign up with NextGenDonate who are the leaders in a new Charity donation concept.

Who would have thought you could use a sticker as a donation point? NextGenDonate are helping and supporting The Movement Centre to do just that with their own branded donation Sticky.

The small stickers created by Sticky, and being brought to charities through NextGenDonate will enable The Movement Centre to turn any object in any environment into a contactless donation point. No power or App required.

Gill Nunn, CEO of NextGenDonate said “The solution allows you to have a single touch engagement for donations, providing the ability to receive contributions, collect Gift Aid and Donor Information. It also delivers feedback to the donor about how they will impact, help and encourage ongoing support through connection to social media. We are delighted to have The Movement Centre as one of the first charities to adopt this new capability and we are excited to see how this can help raise funds for the charity.”

The Movement Centre will have the ability to turn a table, a rock or even a person into a donation point for their supporters. We have loads of ideas on how we could use the Sticky donation points and this is another way of a small charity like The Movement Centre to diversify our fundraising. The Movement Centre are now looking for pubs, restaurants or individuals to trial this new concept and would ask people to get in touch to find out more about these stickers.

Local charity mixing with the spirits Industry

A local children’s charity, The Movement Centre, is delighted to announce a partnership with a local distillery that is set to raise vital funds for their work with children who have additional needs.

Henstone Distillery are releasing Platinum Jubilee limited editions of some of their spirit range and have pledged to donate £5 from every bottle sold to The Movement Centre. The first of their limited edition spirits, which sold out in just 46 minutes when released at the beginning of February, was the Distillery’s single malt whisky.

Whisky lovers flocked to purchase the single malt, which was limited to 70 bottles, to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The bottles were released online at about 6pm on the 9th of February and collectors raced to purchase a bottle, incredibly, all the bottles sold out in record time.

Curtis Langley, Fundraising and Marketing Officer at The Movement Centre said “We are delighted to be working with Chris, Henry and the team at Henstone on this special edition range of spirits for the Queen’s Jubilee. This project will not only raise awareness of our work, but also raise vital funds, and we are so pleased to be the charity to benefit.”

Henstone Distillery, based near Oswestry will release 70 bottles of each of the other spirits in the range, including gins and vodka over the next few weeks, which is very exciting for both organisations. News about the releases can be found on Henstone Distillery’s social media pages and their website but as a hint they are likely to release the Platinum Edition London Dry Gin at 6p.m. on the 23rd of February.

Chris Toller, Director at Henstone Distillery said “We are absolutely delighted to be supporting The Movement Centre with this initiative which was the brainchild of our latest recruit, Henry. Let’s hope the remaining releases are as successful and we can achieve our target of raising more than £2000 for The Movement Centre this year.”

County charities collaborate for Christmas!

A ground-breaking Christmas collaboration project to raise awareness and funds for multiple Shropshire charities has been launched, and The Movement Centre are involved!
Advent for Others is an advent calendar with a difference and features information about 24 charities from across the county. The calendar showcases the work of charities which also includes Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, Shropshire Wildlife Trust, Signal, and the Harry Johnson Trust, among many others.
By purchasing a physical calendar, people will not just be supporting one charity but helping to boost fundraising and awareness for all 24.
